Lee turned around and faced the rest of the park. This place was once slums. If it weren't for him and Aerith, it probably still would be. He remembered their first day selling things. She was telling him that he looked silly in the Lucario outfit he was wearing. He remembered their first customer too.

------

Lee ran up to the man and started advertising their flower stall frantically. Aeroth watched, giggling. The man looked at Lee and then up at Aerith, who was standing next to a small trolley full of flowers not far away. The man shrugged and walked over to Aerith, who sold a small bunch for 5 PokéDollars.

"5?" Lee complained.

Aerith nodded. "It's very reasonable. And look, my wallet's already full of money, see?" Rukario looked in Aerith's open wallet, and it was filled with change. "You're gonna have to make some more room in that wallet, then, Aerith." Lee said, and smiled. Aerith laughed. "I guess I am." she said happily, and closed the wallet.

-----------

Thanks to Aerith and him, that man had planted those flowers in a small patch of ground in the centre of the slums. They remained there while the place continued evolving, changing into a paradise for wildlife rather than a district of mud and pathetic wooden houses. But before that happened... one year ago, there was a meeting that didn't go as planned.

-----------

Lee stood in the park at the top of the slide, waiting for Aerith to appear. After a while he gave up and slid down the slide, deciding to wander around until he found her. She was hiding underneath the slide, it turned out, and Lee got annoyed at her for keeping him waiting. She just laughed. Already the flowers had made a huge impact on the slums. Now people were coming here and staying for picnics with their families.  Lee was quite surprised at how well it had all turned out, and Aerith was too. Riolu was now sliding down the slide along with an Igglybuff and a Shinx, which was Aerith's.

Lee looked over at Aerith. "Aerith.." he said quietly. "Come with me."

Aerith raised her eyebrows and giggled. Lee smiled, and took her hand. He led her to the treehouse, and climbed up it. They had slept there, together, almost every night, facing each other and normally giggling. This time Lee took her up the rope ladder to find there was a man digging a tunnel through the floor of the treehouse and down through the tree. Aerith screamed as she saw him, and Lee jumped in front of her protectively. The man looked up sharply. He was wearing light clothing which had the Team Light insignia on. The man scowled and held the shovel up offensively. Lee growled at him. Aerith watched, terrified. The man swung the shovel at Lee, who dodged it and did an impressive uppercut on him. The man fell to the ground, KOd. Aerith looked at Lee, a bit scared and a bit amazed. "You're really strong, Lee." she said. Lee smiled and posed heroically.

The next day, they woke up in the park, where they had slept together. Lee was the first of them to notice the man dressed in white standing in front of them. Aerith saw him, and jumped. Lee scowled again. "You want to die this time?" he hissed. The man glared at him, then pulled out a gun and aimed it at Aerith. She looked at Lee. "Lee..." she said.

-------

Lee roared and ripped the Lucario suit off. He was standing in the same place he had woken up and saw the man. He tried to think that he couldn't have done anything, but it was impossible. He could have. There was so many things he could have done. He smacked himself on the head and screamed, then fell to the ground in a lump, sobbing and rocking. Aerith wouldn't have died if it weren't for him.

A while after he had gotten over that, he walked over to Aerith's grave in the centre of the slums, and placed a single rose on it. Roses were always Aerith's favourite flower. Now they always would be. If it weren't for him.
